District heating and direct electric heating are billed per kilowatt-hour of heat delivered, so they count as full. A lower efficiency makes the current heating look more expensive and raises the calculated saving.

- What coefficient of performance is realistic?
- In a well insulated house with underfloor heating, around 4. With radiators and higher flow temperatures, closer to 3. The value decides the running cost.
- Can solar power a heat pump in winter?
- Only partly. Production is lowest exactly when heat demand peaks, so a realistic annual solar share is a minority of the heating electricity.
- Does a heat pump need new radiators?
- Not always. What matters is the flow temperature the building needs. Larger radiators or underfloor heating lower it and raise the coefficient of performance.
